"I have become more knowledgeable about the World"

I have become more knowledgeable about the globe through learning of the life of Ugandan children. Who would think this was happening to Children on Earth. I did not. In fact, I now question how I could have known, such as through FOX news and AOL being the only primary sources. These two main sources of news for me never had informed me on the situation. This effect, I came to learn, is called 'Shock Exhaustion'. This effect derives itself from the viewer constantly being bombarded with mass terror, leading to the 'exhaustion'. The 'exhaustion' is the lessened impact of the terror than before. An example could be, "LRA kills 254 villagers, kidnaps 45 children." Due to 'Shock Exhaustion' this message begins to read in your mind, "Some people killed in Africa." I have gathered from class discussion and group work the LRA evils and the procedure the Media takes to many of its actions.

On another note, I have become even more knowledgeable pertaining to happenings of the twentieth century. A time when New Imperialism was in full swing, right up until WW1. This world war was the of the only two international wars to have of ever existed. It was given during its time the title 'The Great War'. It would not be unusual for a young woman to give a man a white feather during the period of the Great War. For, this feather was intended to shame the man, in other words calling him a coward. This group of women were called 'The White feather' campaign.
During the Great War, many injuries pertaining to the face and facial features and injuries to the body would arise. An effect of this was medical advancements. In this new world, post-WW1, knowledge and medicine blossomed.

I have also learned much about human diversity, including the sociological (non-scientific) nature of race as a category. Using knowledge from the 'Race Quiz' provided by the Bush Administration, I have come to accept that race is more connected to ones self perception of their pedigree than in reference to their ancestry, which is identified through close analysis of one's ancestral past and origin. Morelikely, people given the choice will classify themselves according to their sociological nature. This means that an individual is more likely to classify themselves due to cultural ties than bloodlines.

I have also learned of places on the earth. Nearly, it seems, a month ago WH2 did a project on countries around the world. From this study many interesting facts arrose. Did you know that Singapore was the first country ever to gain independence against its own will? Or, did you know that Somalia is full of pirates or that in Cambodia, the flexibly wrists is a sign of grace? I, speaking solely for myself, did not know. I believe the study on world-wide countries was intended to make students aware of the general location of various places not of their own.

On a final note, I have learned extensively on cultures of the world's societies. Calling reference to the 'Race Quiz' and the study on world countries. Many cultures find themselves vastly different than their neighbors. For instance, as an American I have ancestrial ties to primarily England, Ireland, and Germany; however, on Census 2010 I did not even claim to be a one of those things. I did this because when I see a Brit I do not see myself. From the study on race and the study on countries I have learned that culture is the customs of people in a community and that culture affects many aspects including race.
